On Thursday, the Edo State Islamic Council conveyed its sincere gratitude to Senator Monday Okpebholo, the state governor, for the appointment of Barr. Umar Musa Ikhilor as the Edo State Government’s secretary.

The Muslim umbrella organisation commended the governor for selecting one of their own to be appointed in a letter of appreciation signed by Alhaji Abdulazeez Igbinidu, Chairman of the Edo State Islamic Council.

Part of the letter stated: “It was with pleasant surprise and a deep sense of excitement that the Edo State Islamic Council received the news of the appointment of Barr. Umar Musa Ikhilor as Secretary to the Edo State Government.

“Surprise, because the appointment, though well-deserved, was unexpected as it is the first to be given to a Muslim in the state in nearly three decades since the return to civil rule in 1999.

“We are humbled and deeply grateful to His Excellency for this rare privilege, and we pledge on behalf of the Edo Muslim community to support and collaborate with your administration in the task of returning the state to the fast lanes of integrated development.”

Being a devoted Muslim, philanthropist, and seasoned public servant, the Council was certain that Barr. Ikhilor would live up to the trust placed in him.

According to the Islamic Council, their admiration for the governor stemmed from the Almighty Allah’s mandate that Muslims honour those who help them along the way, just as Allah commands them to submit to those in positions of power.

As the new administration embarks on the honourable mission of leading and serving the people of Edo, the Council pledged to be prepared to work with it.

Under the Governor’s leadership, the Council expressed hope that the state would see incredible growth, unity, and prosperity that would benefit all areas.

They also prayed that the Almighty Allah SWT would lead, support, and provide the governor and his staff the discernment to run the state’s affairs for the benefit of people and to His glory.
