Edo police arrest 23 suspects for cultism and kidnapping

23 suspects have been paraded by an Edo State Police Command officer due to their alleged involvement in crimes and criminalities inside the state.

Police Commissioner Umoru Ozigi paraded the suspects Monday in Benin, stating that they were detained on charges of kidnapping and cultism, among other offences in the state.

According to him, four suspects were arrested for kidnapping, and 19 suspects were apprehended for alleged cult-related actions.

According to Ozigi, some of the suspected cultists were taken into custody at the Benin-Agbor road bypass, Benin-Lagos Motorway, Benin City, while others were taken into custody at Jattu/Ibie Comprehensive Road in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area.

He claimed that by making arrests, the police are attempting to curb the state’s unsightly cult-related murders and criminal activity.

“The suspects are members of Eiye Confraternity, Vikings, Black Axe Confraternity and Buccaneer Confraternity.

Nine Pump Action weapons, three single barrel guns, two fake Beretta pistols, and three fake cut-to-size firearms were among the goods he described that were found on the suspects.

In addition, there are 82 live cartridges, 14 used cartridges, a Lexus ES 330 vehicle, an axe and a pistol silencer.

The commissioner stated that following an investigation, the accused would face charges in court.
