The Edo State Police Command has arrested four suspected cultists and recovered firearms during an intelligence-led operation in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area.
The operation, carried out in the early hours of March 24, 2026, was part of ongoing efforts to tackle cultism and violent crimes in the state.
According to the police, the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated raid based on credible intelligence.
“On 24th March, 2026, at about 0200hrs, operatives of the Command, acting on credible intelligence, carried out a well-coordinated operation which led to the arrest of four suspects,” the statement said.
Items recovered from the suspects include four pump-action guns, nine live cartridges, and three expended cartridges.
Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are members of the Eiye Confraternity and that the weapons were illegally acquired.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, commended the operatives for their professionalism and reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustaining the crackdown on cult-related activities across the state.
“The suspects were arraigned before court for prosecution, having conducted diligent investigation.”
The Command also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information, assuring that all reports would be treated confidentially.
