The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the seizure of illicit drugs valued at N1.8 billion within a three-month period in the state.

The State Commander, Dr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, in Benin City during a press briefing outlining the Command’s activities for the first quarter of the year.

Ofoyeju stated that a total of 18,380 kilograms of illegal substances were confiscated during the period, while no fewer than 104 suspected drug traffickers were apprehended.

He noted that cannabis accounted for the largest portion of the seizures, with 18,293 kilograms recovered.

Other substances intercepted include psychotropic drugs weighing 6.01kg, methamphetamine 0.188kg, cocaine 0.023kg, heroin 0.0151kg, and 81.4 litres of codeine cough syrup.

The commander further broke down the arrests, revealing that 71 of the suspects were male, while 33 were female.

He also disclosed that the Command secured 36 convictions at the Federal High Court in Benin City, comprising 32 males and four females.

In addition, Ofoyeju said operatives destroyed 10 cannabis farms covering 5.02260 hectares.

He explained that these results were achieved through intelligence-driven operations aimed at curbing drug-related crimes and promoting a drug-free society.

“The Command also intensified anti-drug abuse education with a total of 26 programmes to highlight the dangers of drug trafficking and abuse.

“Twenty-eight drug-dependent clients were rehabilitated, while 66 others received counselling and were reunited with their families”, he said.
