The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa, has called on Muslim faithful to use the holy month of Ramadan as a period to promote peace, strengthen security, and deepen unity across the state.

Idahosa made the appeal in a goodwill message to the Muslim Ummah to mark the commencement of Ramadan. In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Friday Aghedo, the deputy governor also extended warm greetings to Christian faithful as they begin the Lenten season.

He described both Ramadan and Lent as sacred periods in the Islamic and Christian faiths, characterised by fasting, prayer, reflection, sacrifice, and renewed devotion to God. According to him, the seasons present unique opportunities for spiritual renewal, self-discipline, charity, and compassion, particularly toward the less privileged in society.

Idahosa commended Muslim faithful for their steadfast adherence to the values of peace, patience, and generosity that define Ramadan. He urged them to continue praying for the progress, stability, and prosperity of Edo State and Nigeria as a whole.

He also acknowledged the significance of Lent in the Christian calendar, describing it as a solemn period of repentance, introspection, and spiritual preparation ahead of Easter. The deputy governor encouraged Christians to embrace the virtues of sacrifice, love, and reconciliation that the season represents.

“The concurrent observance of these holy seasons is a powerful reminder of our shared values as a people, faith, unity, tolerance, and collective responsibility.

“Edo State remains a shining example of religious harmony, and Senator Monday Okpebholo’s administration is committed to sustaining an environment where all faiths coexist peacefully and contribute meaningfully to development,” he stated.

Idahosa further urged residents to use the sacred period to foster unity, strengthen interfaith understanding, and work collectively toward building a more secure, just, and prosperous Edo State and nation.
