In keeping with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Federal Government has commenced the distribution of food items to vulnerable groups in Edo State, including Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).

The flag-off ceremony was led by Mrs. Patricia Imade, the Edo State Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, and took place on Monday at the Army Salvation, Benin Rehabilitation Centre. During the event, more than 500 bags of processed garri were distributed to the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD).

According to Imade, the intervention, carried out under the Renewed Hope National Accelerated Garri Production Programme, aims to ensure that vulnerable persons and people living with disabilities are not excluded from government initiatives.

‎”The distribution would be extended to correctional centres, vulnerable women and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state,” the coordinator also mentioned.

Imade further explained that the programme is a rescue intervention targeted at the underprivileged, noting that over 2,000 bags of garri had been allocated to Edo State. She emphasised the Federal Government’s commitment to fostering inclusion and ensuring that vulnerable groups feel part of national development and governance.

Speaking through Princewill Idemudia, the Edo State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Jerry Uwangue, commended the Federal Government for the initiative. He stated that the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo had fully embraced federal programmes aimed at promoting inclusive governance and improving the welfare of the state’s most vulnerable residents.
