The Nigerian Society of Engineers has approved the establishment of the NSE Oredo Branch in Edo State, increasing the Society’s total number of branches to 94 across Nigeria and in the diaspora.
The approval was granted during the NSE Council Meeting held on March 12, 2026, a development stakeholders describe as a major step toward strengthening the presence of the engineering profession and promoting greater professional engagement within the state.
Reacting to the development, the Pioneer Chairman of the branch, Chukudi M. Akpotowho, expressed appreciation to the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, and members of the council for approving the creation of the new branch.
Akpotowho said the decision aligns with the President’s vision of resetting the Society for innovation and development, an initiative aimed at strengthening the organisation and positioning the engineering profession to contribute more effectively to national growth.
He described the approval as a significant milestone for engineers in Edo State and a boost for the advancement of the profession.
“We are sincerely grateful to the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, and the entire NSE Council for their visionary leadership and for approving the establishment of the Oredo Branch. This decision reflects the Society’s commitment to strengthening professional engagement and advancing engineering practice across Nigeria,” he said.
Akpotowho also commended the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, for what he described as the administration’s focus on infrastructure development and economic progress in the state.
According to him, the engineering community remains an important partner in the state’s development efforts.
“We equally commend the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his commitment to infrastructure development and progress in the state. The engineering community in Edo stands ready to partner with the government by offering professional expertise that will support sustainable infrastructure, innovation and economic advancement,” Akpotowho added.
He further appreciated members of the National Executive Committee and Council of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, as well as the Steering Committee and members of the NSE Oredo Branch, for their encouragement and support toward the establishment of the branch.
Akpotowho explained that the newly approved branch, popularly referred to by members as “The Luxury Branch,” is expected to provide a strong platform for professional development, mentorship of young engineers, innovation and strategic collaboration among engineers, government institutions and the private sector.
According to him, the branch will focus on strengthening professional excellence while contributing meaningfully to engineering-driven development initiatives in Edo State and across Nigeria.
The establishment of the Oredo Branch further reflects the commitment of the Nigerian Society of Engineers to expanding its reach and reinforcing the role of engineers in national development.
