The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) has initiated a partnership with the Department of State Services (DSS) to enhance the security of revenue collection processes in the state.
Speaking after a closed-door meeting with DSS officials in Benin City, the Executive Chairman of EIRS, Mr. John Osarenkhoe Odior, said the move is aimed at addressing security challenges that could hinder effective revenue generation.
He noted that the collaboration will focus on intelligence sharing, operational assistance, and coordinated strategies to protect revenue systems.
“The essence of this visit is to identify areas of collaboration and support that will enable us to drive revenue growth without security challenges,” he said.
Odior also praised Governor Monday Okpebholo for ongoing infrastructure development across the state, adding that the agency is committed to supporting government efforts through improved revenue generation.
He further explained that the agency would prioritise tax awareness, public sensitisation, and increased engagement with residents to encourage compliance.
The EIRS boss reassured taxpayers that issues of double taxation are being addressed through ongoing reforms and restructuring, describing the current system as an improvement on previous practices.
“We are not focused on setting arbitrary tax targets; the results will speak for themselves and will be verifiable,” he stated.
Odior encouraged residents to better understand the evolving tax system by familiarising themselves with relevant laws and reforms.
“We need to take time to study the tax system and be fully aware of our responsibilities as citizens,” he added.
