The Edo State Police Command has deployed over 5,000 personnel, including specialised anti-bomb units, to ensure safety and security across Edo State ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

In a statement issued late Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, the deployment is aimed at boosting police visibility, securing public spaces, and ensuring swift response to any security concerns.

“A total of 5,000 police personnel have been deployed to enhance police visibility, dominate public spaces and respond promptly to any emerging situation. The deployment covers Eid prayer grounds, major roads, motor parks and other locations expected to attract large gatherings,” the statement said.

It added that personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit have been strategically stationed and are already conducting security sweeps at designated prayer grounds and other high-traffic areas to detect and neutralise potential threats. These checks, according to the command, will continue throughout the celebration period.

The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, also directed sustained patrols and intelligence-led operations, with special focus on entry and exit routes into the state.

Agbonika urged residents to go about their lawful activities without fear while remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious movements or objects to the police.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a strong security presence before, during and after the festivities, while wishing Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyful celebration.
