In an effort to better the welfare and living conditions of teachers in technical and vocational institutions throughout the state, the Edo State Government, acting through the Board for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (BTVE), has put the recently refurbished Principal and Staff Quarters at the Government Technical College, Benin City, into service. Barr. (Mrs.) Onomen Briggs, the Executive Chairman of BTVE, spoke at the ceremony and reiterated the State Government’s dedication to governance continuity and the growth of the education sector. She underlined that educators should be content here on Earth rather than waiting for their reward in heaven because they were essential to the development of the country.
Barr. Briggs expressed gratitude to the State Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, and the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, for their people-oriented leadership. He commended them as leaders who truly care about the well-being of citizens and uphold the principle of government continuity.

The Executive Secretary, Engr. Felix Okpe—represented by the Director of Capacity Building, Directorate of Content Development Board, Engr. Abayomi Bamidele—stated that the project aligns with the Board’s goal of improving the welfare of educators who play a vital role in knowledge dissemination. He revealed that four out of the thirteen flats have already been renovated, and that plans are in place to inspect other sites and ensure the swift completion of the remaining work.

The College Principal, Mr. Izedomwen Friday, expressed gratitude to the Edo State Government and the BTVE leadership for their ongoing commitment to improving teachers’ welfare and infrastructure. He described the renovation as a much-needed and timely effort, highlighting that the staff quarters had been in poor condition for several years.

The newly commissioned facilities include four twin-flat apartments and boys’ quarters, aimed at creating a more comfortable and conducive living environment for the College staff.
