The Edo State Police Command has recorded major successes in its fight against kidnapping following proactive patrols and sustained intelligence-led operations in Igarra and surrounding areas.

According to a statement released by the Command, operatives of the Igarra Area Command on January 28, 2026, arrested two suspected kidnappers along the Auchi–Igarra Highway. The suspects, identified as Muhammed Muamadu Haru (35) and Abubakar Muhammed Haruna (25), were apprehended at about 1:30 p.m. during routine patrols at a known security checkpoint.

Police said the suspects were recognized by a member of a vigilante group as part of a kidnapping syndicate previously involved in a gun duel during a joint bush-combing rescue operation. Upon being identified, the suspects reportedly attempted to flee into the bush but were swiftly intercepted and arrested. Investigations into the case are ongoing.

In a related development, on Monday, February 2, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m., a motorcycle patrol team from the Igarra Area Command foiled another kidnapping attempt along the Auchi–Igarra Express Road. The patrol team intercepted three suspected kidnappers who were allegedly preparing to block the road. The suspects escaped into a nearby forest after a chase, abandoning items believed to be logistics for criminal activities, including food supplies, mobile phones, jack knives, and other personal belongings.

The police disclosed that sustained bush-combing operations are currently underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, commended the officers involved for their vigilance and professionalism, while reassuring residents of the Command’s determination to rid Edo State of criminal elements. He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through established emergency lines.
