The Edo State Government has directed the release of fourteen suspects after determining that there is no prima facie case against them.
The decision followed legal advice issued by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Ministry of Justice, regarding Criminal Reference CR: 30/2026. The advice came after a detailed review of the case file submitted by the Edo State Police Command.
The case involved allegations of conspiracy, cultism, and promoting armed attacks against the fourteen individuals. After carefully examining the facts and evidence contained in the duplicate case file, the DPP concluded that the available evidence was insufficient to support prosecution. As a result, it was advised that the suspects be released if they are still in custody.
The state government reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy toward cultism, violent crimes, and any actions capable of threatening public peace. However, it emphasized that prosecutions must be based on credible and substantial evidence rather than mere allegations.
The administration also assured residents of its continued support for security agencies in tackling crime, while maintaining fairness, objectivity, and strict adherence to constitutional provisions.
Residents were urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and supportive of ongoing efforts to sustain peace and security across the state.
