The Edo State Government (EDSG) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited have confirmed their readiness to collaborate on the establishment of a 10,000 barrels-per-day (bpd) condensate refinery in Edo State.
The refinery, which is expected to be completed within 24 to 36 months, will be located across Oredo and Orhionmwon Local Government Areas of the state. When operational, it is projected to produce about 20 truckloads of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and 10 truckloads of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) daily to meet the energy needs of Edo State and neighbouring regions.
Governor Monday Okpebholo made this known while receiving the Executive Vice President, Downstream, NNPC Limited, Alhaji Mumuni Dagazia, and his management team during a courtesy visit to Government House, Benin City. He described the investment as a demonstration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

Governor Okpebholo noted that the refinery would create employment opportunities, reduce poverty, and strengthen Edo State’s industrial base. He assured the NNPC delegation of his administration’s full support to ensure the successful execution of the project.
“We are delighted to welcome this major investment to Edo State. My administration is committed to creating jobs and reducing poverty, in line with the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This is a huge step for Edo, and we are proud to be part of it,” the governor said.
He further stated that the Edo State Government would provide land, Certificates of Occupancy (C of O), security, and other necessary logistics required to facilitate the project. “Security will not be an issue. We are committed to protecting investments and ensuring Edo State remains safe for business. Our political will is fully behind this initiative,” Governor Okpebholo said.
Earlier, Alhaji Mumuni Dagazia described the proposed condensate refinery as a sustainable project designed to promote revenue generation, job creation, industrial growth, and overall development of Edo State.
Also speaking, the Chief Downstream Investment Officer of NNPC, Mr. Ikedichi Dick-Nwoke, said the refinery, upon completion, would position Edo State as a major energy and industrial hub in the South-South region. He added that the project would enhance investor confidence, align with Governor Okpebholo’s industrialisation agenda, and significantly expand employment opportunities for residents of the state.
The statement was signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Edo State, Patrick Akhere Ebojele, PhD, and dated Thursday, February 5, 2026.
