The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting and developing talent within the state’s creative sector as part of efforts to strengthen the local economy.

This assurance was given by the Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, when he received members of the creative community at his office.

Idahosa said the government is determined to build stronger collaboration with stakeholders in the creative industry, noting that their growth would contribute significantly to the success of the administration’s SHINE Agenda. He also called for continued support from entertainers drawn from across the three senatorial districts of Edo State.

While acknowledging the role of creatives in the state’s development, the deputy governor assured them that their proposals would be carefully reviewed.

“The Okpebholo-led administration is not unaware of inputs made by the entertainment industry in Edo State,” he said.

“The abundance and actualisation of creative talent has helped to give meaning to government policies, especially those focused on youth empowerment, job creation and talent discovery. This has further strengthened the SHINE Agenda of the Edo State Government.

“This government is ready to work with you, and this is reflected in the appointment of your colleague, Solomon Okosun, to serve in this administration. This demonstrates the government’s support for the creative sector,” he added.

Earlier, the entertainers, led by Solomon Okosun, appealed to the government to involve them more in its programmes and provide access to soft loans to support their work, which they described as capital-intensive.

The group comprised comedians, actors, photographers, videographers, musicians, content creators, models, hype men, DJs and filmmakers, all seeking greater inclusion and support to expand the state’s creative economy.
