Several political appointees in Edo State have resigned their positions in compliance with the directive issued by Governor Monday Okpebholo requiring intending aspirants to step down before seeking elective offices in 2027.

Among those who resigned is the Commissioner for Water Resources and Sanitation, Washington Osifo. He is set to contest for the Uhunmwode/Orhionmwon Federal Constituency seat currently represented by Hon. Billy Osawaru.

Also stepping down is the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Plus Alile, who is preparing to vie for the Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency seat.

In addition, a board member of the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission, Osaze Igbinovia, and a member of the Edo State Audit Commission, Terry Igiebor, have submitted their resignation letters.

Governor Okpebholo had earlier directed political appointees and civil servants aspiring to contest elective positions to resign on or before March 1 in line with the stipulated requirements.
