The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Saturday hosted a Sallah luncheon for troops of the Forward Operations Base (FOB) Sobe in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State as part of activities marking Eid-el-Fitr.
Speaking to the troops, the COAS reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to boosting morale and strengthening inter-agency cooperation through welfare-focused initiatives, while urging personnel to remain dedicated to the defence of national peace and sovereignty.
Represented by the Commander, 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, the army chief stressed the importance of resilience and professionalism among troops operating in challenging environments.
“They serve in difficult and often demanding environments, far from the comfort of their homes, yet remain steadfast in loyalty and professionalism.
Their endurance, sacrifice and courage represent the true spirit of the Nigerian soldier. We pray for their safety, strength and success in all ongoing operations, and we look forward to their safe return,” he said.
He also commended other security and intelligence agencies for their cooperation, noting that sustained collaboration remains vital for operational effectiveness and national stability.
The COAS further expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support and commitment to the welfare and operational efficiency of the Armed Forces, describing his leadership as a source of motivation for troops.
In his remarks, the Commander, FOB Sobe, Lieutenant Colonel Stanley Agboro, described the luncheon as a traditional event held during major festive periods, including Eid-el-Fitr, Eid-el-Kabir, Easter, and Christmas.
He explained that the initiative is aimed at boosting morale, recognising the sacrifices of personnel, honouring fallen heroes, and strengthening unity within the ranks.
Agboro thanked the Brigade Commander and his delegation for visiting the base to celebrate with the troops.
He also acknowledged the presence of the Chairperson of Owan West Local Government Area, Madam Joy Ohonyon, represented by the Vice Chairman, Mr Dele Aleburu, as well as the Odibiado of Sobe, HRH Anthony Ero Aleburu I, and heads of other security agencies.
The event featured a luncheon, cultural dance displays, comedy performances, and morale-boosting songs by the troops.
