Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, approved a probe by the Edo State House of Assembly into allegations of corruption against Bliss Oshionogue, the acting chairman of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area.

Seven council members had impeached Oshionogue last week. However, Governor Okpebholo ordered him to return to office while the Assembly conducts its investigation. The governor also assured that anyone found guilty of the allegations would be handed over to security agencies for prosecution.

According to government sources, Governor Okpebholo addressed the Akoko-Edo APC dispute during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Irrua, the headquarters of Esan Central Local Government Area. The sources said the governor directed that the status quo before the impeachment be maintained to allow the House of Assembly carry out a thorough investigation.

Meanwhile, Hon. Anslem Agbabi, the Edo North senatorial leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), confirmed that the governor had warned that anyone found culpable would face appropriate sanctions.
