According to the Edo State Police Command, its officers have saved Grace Osamagbe, a 14-month-old infant who was kidnapped in April by her nanny, Rejoice Chukwu.
This was disclosed to reporters in Benin, the state capital, on Saturday by Umoru Ozigi, the state’s commissioner of police.
Chukwu, 24, and her boyfriend, Destiny Uchechukwu, were taken into custody by the anti-kidnapping and cybercrime section in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State, according to Ozigi.
According to the police chief, the accused kidnapped the infant in Benin and demanded N160,000 in ransom.
“In spite of receiving the ransom, the suspects allegedly sold the baby for N500,000 to Doris Chiwendu in Owerri, Imo State.
“Following intense interrogation, police tracked down Chiwendu and another suspect, Jane Amaigbo, in Ubomiri, Imo State, and rescued the baby on November 9,” he said.
According to him, the suspects would soon be charged to court.
