Okpebholo Approves N2bn Grant, Buses for Edo State University

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved a N2 billion grant for infrastructural development at Edo State University Iyamho, alongside the donation of buses to support the institution’s operations.

The governor also redeployed the Commissioner for Works, Felix Akhabue, to the Ministry of Water Resources, directing the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works to oversee affairs pending the appointment of a new commissioner.

According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor, the directive takes immediate effect.

Okpebholo announced the N2 billion intervention during the inauguration of the Ehi Agenmonmen Business Administration E-Library and the groundbreaking ceremony of the Peter Omoh Dunia Fitness Centre at the university.

He commended the Vice-Chancellor, Victor Adetimirin, for his dedication and personal contributions toward the growth of the institution.

In addition to the grant, the governor increased the university’s monthly subvention from N100 million to N250 million, underscoring his administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector.

Said he: “Today is a great day for Edo State University, Iyamho. Since assuming office, our administration has remained committed to repositioning the education sector in Edo State. These projects are symbols of progress, partnership, and shared responsibility in advancing education and health in Edo State.

“These acts of generosity remind us that government alone cannot do everything. We call on other corporate organisations and well-meaning individuals to emulate these noble gestures and partner the government in building a stronger Edo State.”

The governor also announced the donation of two Toyota Hiace buses and two CNG-powered buses to enhance transportation within the university community.
