Ahead of the local government elections in Edo State, the Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, has called for unity among members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to strengthen the party’s chances at the polls.
According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Friday Aghedo, Idahosa made the appeal during the unveiling of the party’s candidate in Iguobazuwa, Ovia South-West Local Government Area.
He commended the party leadership for zoning the chairmanship position ahead of the April primary election, noting that the decision helped avert potential internal disputes within the APC.
The deputy governor said the arrangement promoted equity, fairness, justice, peace, and unity within the party.
He also praised the people of Ovia South-West for embracing internal democracy, pointing out that Udo Ward had not produced a council chairman since the beginning of political activities in the area.
“We, the leadership of Ovia South-West chapter of the APC, sat and considered it. We had a couple of meetings before now, and today, we presented our preferred candidate.”
Speaking on the choice of candidate, he said, “Osarobo Anthony is an Ovia South-West person who was born and raised in Udo Community and understands what the average people in the rural areas are going through, which is a good point for us.
“Also, as a young person who is well read, the majority of the youths support him. He is a very competent person. Very reliable. He is loyal to the party and very committed to whatever he believes in.
“He is very reliable in the values and principles of our great party. We, the leadership of the party of Ovia South-West are very happy with him,” Idahosa said.
He added that the emergence of councillorship candidates across the 10 wards was smooth, similar to the selection of the party’s flagbearer.
Idahosa appealed to party members who may have reservations about the outcome to align with the collective decision in the interest of the party.
Also speaking, the APC Local Government Chairman, Emmanuel Ogbomo, urged members to remain united and focused as preparations continue for the council election.
