No fewer than 800 residents in five communities in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State are expected to benefit from a three-day free medical outreach organised by Edo State University, Iyamho.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Victor Adetimirin, disclosed this on Wednesday during the flag-off of the programme themed “Bringing Quality Healthcare to Your Doorstep.”

He explained that the initiative is part of the university’s corporate social responsibility aimed at expanding access to healthcare services for underserved populations.

The outreach will cover Iyamho, Ogbido, Iyora, Elele, and Uluoke communities, focusing on providing essential medical care to indigent residents within the host communities.

Adetimirin said the programme reflects the institution’s commitment to improving the well-being of surrounding communities by addressing gaps in access to basic healthcare.

“This initiative is targeted at improving the health of indigent members of our host communities. It is our modest contribution to ensuring that those who cannot afford medical care still have access to quality services,” he said.

The Head of the medical team, Dr Isaac Omoregbe, said beneficiaries would receive free medical screening, treatment, and consultations during the exercise.

He listed conditions to be attended to as hypertension, diabetes, malaria, hepatitis B and C, upper respiratory tract infections, arthritis, and other common illnesses, adding that routine checks such as blood sugar tests would also be conducted.

Omoregbe noted that the outreach is designed to bring healthcare services closer to residents, especially those unable to afford them, while also encouraging preventive health practices.

He advised residents to maintain proper hygiene and clean environments to reduce the risk of disease outbreaks.

Some beneficiaries commended the university for the initiative, describing it as timely and beneficial.

One of the beneficiaries, Osagie Moses, said the programme would have a positive impact on the health and well-being of residents in the communities.
