Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has received commendation for funding the reconstruction of a 28.2-kilometre section of the Benin–Sapele–Warri Road.

The promoter of Edo Nigeria’s Construction Site, Mr John Mayaki, gave the commendation after inspecting progress on the project, noting that the reconstruction is being financed by the state government.

Mayaki, who toured the site, dismissed claims that the Federal Ministry of Works is responsible for funding the project, stating that the intervention is being carried out by the Okpebholo administration.

He contrasted the current development with previous efforts, alleging that the past administration did not effectively collaborate with the Federal Government to address the condition of the road.

He said, “I must commend the governor for coming to the rescue with his steady hands, especially the monitoring and inspection he has on several occasions undertaken to ensure that the contractor delivers within record time and meets quality standards,” Mayaki said.

He explained that his inspection covered the stretch from the flyover under construction on Sapele Road to Santana Market, extending through RCC and the Ogheghe bypass to the Ologbo–Koko junction.

According to him, significant progress has been recorded on the project, including the construction of 1.5 kilometres of surface drains, a one-kilometre underground channel, and a 1.6-kilometre underground canal aimed at addressing recurring flooding along the Sapele Road corridor.

Mayaki said, “I must commend the governor for his attention to detail on this project,” he added.

He further noted that ongoing infrastructure development is positioning Edo State as a major construction hub, adding that improved road networks are expected to enhance economic activities, boost revenue, and support overall growth.

He also commended the governor’s collaboration with the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in advancing key infrastructure projects across the state.
