The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has yet to issue an official response 11 days after its former spokesman, Daniel Osa-Ogbegie, resigned from the party and declared support for Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Attempts to get a reaction from the party leadership were unsuccessful, as calls to the State Chairman, Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, were not answered as of the time of filing this report.

Findings indicate that the silence from the party leadership has raised concerns among members, particularly as political activities begin to build ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Osa-Ogbegie announced his resignation on March 12, 2026, attributing his decision to what he described as the absence of visible aspirants on the PDP platform in preparation for the 2027 polls.

He also expressed concern over what he viewed as challenges within the opposition space, including issues of organisation, unity, and the ability to present a strong alternative.

The legal practitioner stated, “after observing the emerging administration of Governor Okpebholo, I have resolved to step aside from my role as opposition spokesman and support efforts aimed at ensuring the success of the government.”

While describing the governor, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as a friend and associate, he stressed that the development of Edo State should come before political interests.

“If he (Okpebholo) succeeds, Edo succeeds—and when Edo succeeds, we all succeed,” he added.

Osa-Ogbegie further noted that although political affiliations may change, leadership should remain focused on promoting the collective interest of the people.

He added that his decision was informed by the desire to see Edo State move beyond political divisions towards stability, growth, and development.
