The member representing Orhionmwon/Uhunmwonde Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Billy Osawaru, has reiterated his commitment to improving the welfare of his constituents through continued empowerment initiatives.

Speaking at a large-scale empowerment programme held in Ikhueniro, Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State, Osawaru said the initiative was part of efforts to boost livelihoods and promote economic development across communities in the constituency.

The event attracted party leaders and stakeholders from both Orhionmwon and Uhunmwonde and featured the distribution of mini-buses, tricycles, motorcycles for persons with disabilities, as well as grinding and welding machines to beneficiaries.

Addressing attendees, the lawmaker said his responsibilities extend beyond lawmaking, emphasising the importance of directly impacting the lives of the people he represents.

“Every day I am in the National Assembly making laws, I keep asking myself if I have done well enough for my people to be satisfied,” he said.

He added, “I can say I have done well, but it is now left for me to consolidate on my areas of strength and improve on my areas of weakness,”

His wife, who attended the programme, encouraged beneficiaries to make effective use of the items distributed, noting that the initiative was aimed at fostering self-reliance and sustainable income generation.

Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the support, saying it would improve their living conditions.

A beneficiary, Osawe, commended Osawaru’s efforts, stating that he “has done well for the constituency and deserves to be returned.”

Another beneficiary, Mrs. Idia, said the sewing machine she received would enable her to start a clothing business. “I have been finding things very difficult, but with this machine, I can now begin a meaningful livelihood,” she said.

Osawaru, who chairs the House Committee on African Integration and Cooperation, is seeking the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for a second term in office.
