Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has provided financial and food assistance to families of 16 hunters killed in Uromi, Edo State, fulfilling pledges made after the incident.

The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Alhaji Abdullahi Waiya, led a state delegation to Bunkure Local Government Area on Friday, where N300,000 was presented to each family of the deceased, while 13 survivors received N200,000 each, alongside food items.

Waiya explained that the visit was directed by the governor to assess the welfare of the affected families and deliver on earlier promises, noting that although the support had been pledged previously, there was a delay in execution.

He added that the Kano State Government remains committed to ensuring that compensation promised by the Edo State Government is also fulfilled.

The commissioner further disclosed that additional assistance may be considered, particularly to support the education of children of the victims.

“We are here today to redeem the pledge made by His Excellency…,” Waiya said, explaining that the governor had been unaware that the initial promise had not been fulfilled until recently, prompting immediate intervention.

He also noted that the Edo State Government is working towards fulfilling its compensation commitment, with a dedicated bank account already opened for the victims’ families and the payment process underway.
