The Okuokpellagbe of Okpella, His Royal Highness Michael Eshioronoya Olorunfemi Sado, has described Qur’an recitation as an important cultural and religious value that should be sustained.

Oba Sado made this known at the 7th annual Qur’an recitation competition held at FUTAC Schools, Imiagwuese, organised in honour of his predecessor, the late Alhaji A.Y.E. Dirisu.

The event drew students, Islamic scholars, parents, and community leaders from Okpella and neighbouring communities.

The monarch noted that the competition reflects the increasing role of Qur’an recitation in promoting religious knowledge and youth development within the community.

He commended the organisers for maintaining the annual programme, describing it as a fitting tribute to the late monarch, whose legacy of piety and commitment to education continues to impact the community.

He also encouraged participants to remain dedicated to both Islamic and Western education as part of their personal and societal development.

He said, “Knowledge remains essential for personal growth and societal progress.

“This competition reflects our values and the need to preserve the legacy of those who came before us.

“It further underscores the culture of peaceful coexistence in Okpella.”

Participants competed across various categories, demonstrating proficiency and discipline in Qur’anic recitation, while outstanding performers were rewarded with prizes and recognition.
