The African Democratic Congress chapter in Edo State has distanced itself from a press statement rejecting the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) led by David Mark.
The disputed statement, dated March 18 and purportedly issued by the Edo chapter, claimed that the tenure of the NWC had expired and that the state chapter no longer recognised its authority. The document, which circulated publicly, did not carry the names of any party officials but included the phone number of the state chairman, Ken Odion.
The statement also alleged that records indicated the six-month tenure of the NWC ended on January 2, 2026.
However, Odion has refuted the claim, stating that the release did not originate from the Edo chapter of the party.
“As chairman of ADC Edo State, I wish to clarify that the press release rejecting the National Working Committee does not represent our chapter,” he said.
He maintained that the current NWC remains the recognised leadership of the party until a properly convened National Executive Committee meeting or national convention decides otherwise.
“The current NWC under Senator David Mark remains recognised until a duly convened NEC or national convention determines otherwise. No state chapter has the authority to unilaterally withdraw recognition from national leadership,” he stated.
Odion reaffirmed the Edo chapter’s support for the party’s national leadership, emphasising its commitment to unity, constitutional processes and internal democracy.
He also urged party members to remain focused and avoid distractions, noting that strengthening the party should remain the priority ahead of future political engagements.
