The Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Daniel A. Noah Osa-Ogbegie, has resigned his membership of the party, citing the need to support efforts aimed at promoting progress and stability in the state.

Osa-Ogbegie, a legal practitioner, announced his decision in a statement titled “That Edo May Win.” He explained that the move followed consultations with friends, associates, political leaders, and members of his family and community.

According to him, politics at its highest level should remain a platform for service to the people, adding that changing political circumstances sometimes require actors to reassess their platforms in order to continue contributing to societal development.

He noted that his time in the PDP was marked by valuable experiences and relationships that he would always appreciate.

The former party spokesman also expressed gratitude to leaders and members of the party who, he said, had worked tirelessly in pursuit of democratic ideals and the vision of building a better Edo State.

Osa-Ogbegie, however, observed that the opposition space in the country had struggled to organise itself with the clarity, cohesion, and momentum required to provide a strong and structured alternative capable of strengthening democracy.

He further expressed concern that with only a few weeks to the close of party nominations, there had been no visible expression of interest from credible aspirants on the platform of the PDP or other opposition parties.

According to him, the situation calls for reflection among political actors committed to purposeful democratic engagement.

Osa-Ogbegie added that after observing the emerging administration of the governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, he concluded that supporting the government in the overall interest of the state was the most constructive role he could play at the moment.
