Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps have arrested a 25-year-old man, Umar Abdullahi, from Bauchi State, over alleged unlawful possession of a firearm in Edo State.
The suspect was apprehended at about 2 a.m. at Akara Junction in the Aduwawa area of Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area.
Confirming the development, the Corps Deputy Commander, Operations, Richard Balogun, disclosed that the suspect was arrested with a gun. He added that the suspect has since been handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.
It was gathered that Abdullahi was intercepted while travelling from Bauchi State to Edo State. Sources indicated that he could not clearly state his destination when questioned by operatives on patrol, a situation that raised suspicion and led to further interrogation.
A source who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that after a search was conducted, a locally made cut-to-size gun was allegedly recovered from the suspect.
Authorities are expected to continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
